15th March 2008 – 2nd August 2008

Passage to India is the fourth exhibition at Initial Access and will present new Indian art from the Frank Cohen Collection. It will showcase a selection of important painting and sculpture by a new generation of artists from India who are starting to take centre stage in the international contemporary art world.

In the wake of overwhelming attention being paid to contemporary art from China, interest is growing in a new generation of artists from India. Always at the forefront of the latest developments in contemporary art globally, the Frank Cohen Collection has been acquiring works of sculpture and painting from India over the past two years, visiting artists’ studios and galleries throughout the country.

Although these artists are influenced by global developments in contemporary art and exposure to the international art world, they maintain a relationship with Western art that is based on an identity rooted in the sub-continent.
